Week 3

chiefs D

Chiefs 26 vs. Eagles 16

Coach Andy Reid’s welcome home to his former team ended as a win, he received a standing ovation at the beginning of the game. The Chiefs D continue to prove that they are one of the best as they applied non-stop pass rushing pressure as OLB Justin Houston had 4.5 sacks in the game and FS Eric Berry returned an INT for a TD. RB Jamaal Charles had a good game with 92yds and a TD on the ground and 80yds receiving. WR Dwayne Bowe was shutdown, but WR Donny Avery toasted the Eagles secondary with 7catches for 141yds. QB Alex Smith continues to impress managing the game well even having a drive which ate up 8mins of clock, but he didn’t have a TD. Former Eagles QB Donovan McNabb was honored at halftime and had his jersey retired. Ironically, the Eagles had 5 turnovers as QB Mike Vick struggled against the pass rush with 2INTs and a fumble. However, Vick had a good game running the ball with 4rushes for 99yds showing that he can still move around. RB LeSean McCoy had a huge day on the ground with 158yds and a TD; they may have exposed a weakness in the Chiefs D going forward. The Eagles D continue to provide a good pass rush, but the secondary continues to struggle.

Texans 9 vs. Ravens 30

The Ravens D was dominant at home in a needed win against a quality Texans team which really set a statement of what the Ravens D could bring especially with free agent MLB Darryl Smith who returned an INT for TD. They couldn’t have picked a better game to show out as MLB Ray Lewis was honored at halftime. The Texans O was very flat and QB Matt Schaub played horribly under constant pressure. The loss of WR Andre Johnson in the 2nd half was also a problem as rookie WR DeAndre Hopkins was exposed without the single coverage he sees when Johnson is available. On the other side, the Ravens O struggled in their first game without RB Ray Rice as the run game was almost non-existent under 2nd year RB Bernard Pierce. QB Joe Flacco was sacked a couple times, but moved the football at times. WR Tandon Doss returned a punt for 82yds giving the team a boost in scoring from the special teams. FS Ed Reed played in his 1st game of the season for the Texans in a matchup against his former team, but wasn’t much of a factor. The Ravens defense applied the pressure to stifle the Texans offense and earn this win.

Giants 0 vs. Panthers 38

0 points!!! The Giants fall to 0-3 as both teams were looking for their 1st win and the Panthers pull off a dominate performance on both sides of the football. The Panthers D-line mostly DE Greg Hardy with 3 sacks absolutely dominated the competition which led to QB Eli Manning getting abused all day long. With the lack of blocking, the run game was non-existent from the Giants for another week. On the other side, Cam Newton had a great day with 3 passing TDs and 1 rushing TD displaying a good job of spreading the ball and using his feet to make plays. However, he did have one interception to CB Aaron Ross. The Panthers O-line dominated the Giants once feared D-line allowing RB DeAngelo Williams to have a huge day rushing with 120yds. This was a game won in the trenches.

Lions 27 vs. Redskins 20

The Lions passing offense out duels the Redskins as they fall to 0-3; that’s right RGIII = 0-3. Stafford carved the defense for 2TDs and 385yds despite a pick 6 to CB DeAngelo Hall. Even without RB Reggie Bush, RB Joique Bell still had a good game powering out a few physical runs to complement the passing game and he even had 4 catches for 69 yards. WRs Nate Burleson and Calvin Johnson had huge games as Burleson had 116yds and Johnson had 115yds and a TD. The Lions defense played well led by rookie DE Ezekiel Ansah who had 2sacks and forced fumble. On the other side, the Redskins offensive played well despite a few fumbles by QB Robert Griffin III one of which he loss as he tried to run finally displaying some of his athleticism again. He went for 326 yards and displayed good accuracy as he spread the ball, but he had 0 TDs and 1 INT. However, he let off a long accurate pass in the 4th quarter to take the lead, but it was dropped by the WR at the last minute. The defensive play from the secondary of the Redskins once again put too much on the shoulders on the offense. RB Alfred Morris had a good game, but couldn’t be much of a factor as the Lions turned it into a shootout. The Lions improve to 2-1 playing well on both sides beating a quality team, but the Redskins had a lot of holes to fix on both sides falling to 0-3.

Chargers 17 vs. Titans 20

A nice clutch performance by QB Jake Locker as he leads the Titans to a last minute win against the Chargers at home. The Chargers seemed to have the game in their hands as QB Phillip Rivers displayed good accuracy (20/24) and connected with TE Antonio Gates early in the game allowing him to spread the ball.  RB Ryan Matthews didn’t run the ball well, but RB Danny Woodhead excelled on the ground and receiving (5 rushes, 31yds & 7 catches, 55yds). On the other side, QB Jake Locker threw for almost 300yds (299) with 1TD no INTs and made plays with his feet with 5 rushes, 68 yards and 1 TD extending drives. RB Chris Johnson had a good game with 19 carries for 90yds. WR Nate Washington had a big game with 131 yards. Locker connected with rookie WR Justin Hunter who used his size to grab the ball out the air on a 34yd TD. Both defenses played well, but neither team really outplayed the other. This was a tough matchup between two AFC teams in need of another win as both teams were (1-1).

Cards 7 vs. Saints 31

The Saints dominate the Cards as the defense provided a good pass rush led by DE/DT Darnell Dockett with 3 sacks, but they had no answer for TE Jimmy Graham. Graham continues to prove that he is the best TE in football and he is only going to get better. He had 9 catches for 134 yards and 2 TDs carving the Cards defense. The Saints defense also manhandled the Cards O-line and sacked QB Carson Palmer 4 times with 2INTs. RB Rashard Mendenhall struggled in the game, but his backups RBs Alfonso Smith and Andre Ellington made plays. CB Patrick Peterson had an 11 yard run and catch for -2 yards. The Saints were led by QB Drew Brees carving the defense for 3 passing TDs and 1 rushing TD despite 1 INT. DE Cameron Jordan led a strong pass rush in a dominate defensive effort. After a controversial offseason about his ability to play with the Chargers, WR Robert Meachem had a TD reception in the game. Safety Tyrann Mathieu “Honey Badger” for the Cards had 9 tackles and an INT in his 1st start expect him to keep his spot.

Bucs 3 vs. Pats 23

Although this game started in a close battle, the Pats got off to a good 2nd quarter where they scored 17pts breaking ways from the Bucs. The Bucs D played well against QB Tom Brady, but didn’t get much help from the offense as QB Josh Freeman struggled for another week as the worst starting QB in the league. RB Doug Martin had a good game, but Freeman could not capitalize off the play action. On the other side, the Pats offense got off to a slow start, but RB Brandon Bolden sparked the offense with plays on the ground and receiving (3 carries, 51yds & 5 catches, 49yds). Brady spread the ball well, after the 1st quarter, gaining a connection with undrafted WR Kenbrell Thompkins out of Cincinnati as he caught 2 TDs on 3 catches for 41 yards; watch this connection going forward. The Pats D had a good game providing a good pass rush and good coverage, despite a few plays by RB Doug Martin. The Pats improve to 3-0 and the Bucs fall to 0-3 with problems on the offensive side of the football.

Packers 30 vs. Bengals 34

This was a huge win for the Bengals taking down a high powered offense and quality team in the Packers which was a real test for the young developing Bengals and they passed. This game was not pretty as both team turned the ball over four times each and the Packers even went on a 30-0 run that the Bengals D finally put an end to. The Bengals O had a few turnovers, but QB Andy Dalton was accurate with the football (20/28 2TDs, INT) and RB Giovani Bernard ran the ball well and even caught a few passes out of the backfield. Bernard split carries with RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis who had a fumble and did not play well; expect Bernard to continue to steal carries as he is more explosive. On the other side, QB Aaron Rodgers was under constant pressure leading to turnovers, but he still made plays through the air. RB James Starks ran well before getting injured, but rookie RB Johnathan Franklin showed his explosiveness becoming the 1st 100 yd Packers rusher in 45 games. It will be interesting to see what he does going forward following this performance. Both defenses provided a solid pass rush and created turnover, however the Bengals D had a big forced fumble on 4th down which was returned for a TD late in the game making it 34-30 Bengals. Also, the Bengals D had a big stop on Rodgers on the last Packers drive of the game. This is a win that the Bengals should grow from.

Rams 7 vs. Cowboys 31

This was a big home win for the Cowboys who absolutely dominate the young Rams team on both sides of the football. Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray slashed the Rams D as he had done in the past for 175yds 1TD. His dominance made it easy for QB Tony Romo to throw 3TDs and spread the ball well. The Cowboys D was also dominate as they rushed QB Sam Bradford all game and didn’t allow any big plays lead by OLB DeMarcus Ware’s 2 sacks giving him the franchise lead. The Rams wouldn’t have scored if they didn’t convert a 4th down conversion after a penalty canceled an interception. WR Miles Austin injured his hamstring in the game and did not return.

Browns 31 vs. Vikings 27

The come up with the surprise win as they start QB Brian Hoyer who is most known as a former Tom Brady backup, but in this game he impresses. Hoyer threw for 3 TDs in the game and 321 yards, but did struggle with 3INTs. However, he did have a drive late in the 4th quarter with a minute left where he just drove up the field like a good veteran QB would do. Hoyer had solid connections with WR Josh Gordon (10 catches, 146yards, TD, 1rush, 22yds) and TE Cameron Jordan continues to impress (6 catches, 66yds, 3TDs). The Browns had a nice trick play with a fake field goal that led to a touchdown pass from P Spencer Lanning. The Browns D had a solid day and a good late game stop on a sack as they had 6 sacks on the game and an INT. On the other side, the Vikings D played a good game with 3 INTs and 3 sacks as MLB Erin Henderson had 2 sacks and an INT. However, the Vikings offense struggled as QB Christian Ponder was ineffective in the passing game, despite using his legs to make plays with 2 rushing TDs. RB Adrian Peterson had a decent game with 88yds and 1 TD, despite another surprising fumble. The Browns game the win improving to 1-2 and the Vikings fall to 0-3 in need of improvement from the QB position.

Falcons 23 vs. Dolphins 27

This was a statement win for the Dolphins over a good Falcons team. This game was close throughout with big plays being the factor mostly on offense and a big play on special teams as SS Don Jones jarred the ball loose from WR/KR Harry Douglas from the Falcons (well worth a YouTube view).  Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill continues to show good poise in the pocket on the way to 3-0. RB Lamar Miller finally broke out with some big runs like they expected from him and RB Daniel Thomas complement him well. On the other side, QB Matt Ryan had a good game, despite a late INT when he was trying to bring them back late in the 4th. RB Jacquizz Rodgers ran the ball well and FB/RB Jason Snelling complement him well, even contributing in the passing game (58yds, TD). WR Julio Jones had a huge day abusing the Dolphins secondary for (9 catches, 115yds). The Falcons D applied a good pass rush, but the run D was shaky allowing big runs to the speedy Lamar Miller. The Falcons fall to 1-2 and really need WR Roddy White at 100%.

Bills 20 vs. Jets 27

The battle of the rookie QBs, E.J. Manuel and Geno Smith, ended in another victory for Geno Smith and the Jets as he came up with a late 4th quarter TD and the D came up with a big 4 down stand. The Jets D attacked the Bills rookie QB all day long with a strong D-line push resulting in 8 sacks. RB Fred Jackson ran the ball well, but only had 7 carries due to the Bills getting behind early. On the other side, RB Bilal Powell ran for a career high 149 yards and carved the Bills defense opening the field. QB Geno Smith had a good game despite two INTs going over 300 yards and showing good ability to run and throw the long ball, he had 3 total TDs with 2 passing and 1 rushing. WRs Santonio Holmes (5 catches, 154yds, TD) and Stephen Hill (3 catches, 108yds, TD) both stretched the field and made big plays to seal this win. This Jets team continues to impress despite early predictions. MLB Kiko Alonso of the Bills had an INT and continues to impress despite a loss. DE Muhammad Wilkerson continues to impress on an underrated Jets D-line with 2 sacks in the game.

Colts 27 vs. 49ers 7

The Colts shock the 49ers on the road with a huge win making QB Colin Kaepernick and the 49ers O ineffective. The key difference in this game was the running of RB Ahmad Bradshaw fresh off injury as he had power run slicing through the middle of the 49ers D; which is surprising as run defense is usually their strength. RB Donald Brown slashed them for a few good runs and QB Andrew Luck took off a few times. On the other side, RB Frank Gore ran well, but only had 11 carries. Both defenses played well, but the Colts had more of a pass rush led by OLB Robert Mathis and a forced fumble by ILB Jerrell Freeman which was recovered by the defense. This is a good win for the young Colts going forward showing that they can be physical. TE Vernon Davis did not play in the game and it showed with the lack of passing game. MLB Patrick Willis was injured in the game and did not return.

Jags 17 vs. Seahawks 45

QB Russell Wilson continues to impress in his 2nd season as he carves the Jags secondary with 4TDs, 1INT. It wasn’t easy for Wilson as he had to display some of his usual elusiveness, but he made big plays spreading the ball well. RBs Marshawn Lynch and Christine Michael ran the ball well. WR Sidney Rice had a big day (79yds, 2TDs) which is good going forward as he is often injured. The Seahawks defense shutdown the Jags leading the way making the Seahawks one of the most dangerous teams. QB Chad Henne struggled mightily in this game and did not make his claim as the starter, but did show a good connection with WR Cecil Short (143yds). RB Maurice Jones-Drew continues to struggle as the Seahawks D was very aggressive, but he did manage a TD. The Jags D applied pressure, but the secondary couldn’t contain Wilson and the offense didn’t help with turnovers. Backup QB Tarvaris Jackson was able to score 2TDs in the game (1 rushing, 1 passing) adding insult to injury going 7/8.

Bears 40 vs. Steelers 23

The Steelers continue to struggle getting behind 17-0 at home, losing big to the Bears. The Bears D absolutely dominated the Steelers as the poor Steelers O-line was manhandled. The Bears O didn’t have to do much, but they did get a solid effort from RB Matt Forte who had a 55yd run and displayed a good combo of speed and power. MLB D.J. Williams has been a great surprise for this team despite off the field issues the last couple years. In this game, Williams led the way with 2 sacks and a big forced fumbled leading the way for this defensive effort. On the other side, the Steelers D was shred on the ground and gave up plays in the passing game, in addition to being put in poor situations early by an ineffective offense in the 1st half. Despite a bad 1st half, QB Ben Roethlisberger threw for over 400yds trying to bring the team back from the early deficit. WR Antonio Brown had 196yds and caught both of the passing TDs (2).  The Steelers D provided some pass rush, but did not play well at all. The Steelers have a long way to go as they fall to 0-3. The Bears improve to 3-0 on the season playing well on both sides of the football.

Raiders 21 vs. Broncos 37

The Broncos dominance continues on Monday Night Football against the Raiders in a double digit win that could have been worst. The Broncos did a great job stopping the run and DE Robert Ayers came along with 2sacks which is a good sign going forward as they expect that from him, but don’t always get pass rush production. Peyton Manning was his typical self as he carved the Raiders D (32/37 3TDs) and opened up the run game for RB Ronnie Hillman as the Raiders safeties began to play deep. RB Monte Ball had a good game, but his fumbling issues continue. Raiders QB Terrelle Pryor continues to show good potential and connected for a 73yd TD with WR Denarius Moore who had a big game with 6 catches for 124yds and a TD. Pryor left with a possible concussion at the end of the game. Broncos LT Chris Clark had a solid game, despite a play where he allowed DE Lamarr Houston to force a fumble on Manning which was returned for a TD. RB Knowshon Moreno struggled after a big week last week, but it shows the depth of the Broncos run game. Despite struggling in the run game, RB Darren McFadden was able to complete a touchdown pass to FB Marcel Reese.

Why does the NFL sanction extortion?
How much does Roger goodell get of the monies extorted from rookies.

We know he knew of these acts and did nothing. Why one should ask. Answer he got paid.
